Rebirth Frame
Daly Co collaborates with Kasko Framworks to design and produce custom wood frames for customers wanting something outside the standard offerings. The request from Audian Gallery was to craft a frame to house the exceptionally delicate and detailed work of Japanese artist Manabu Ikeda and his piece called Rebirth. The frame was to be one of the feature installations at Manabu’s first exhibition in Canada - “Flowers From the Wreckage” at the Audain Gallery in Whistler, BC. The request was that this frame be designed for assembly, and disassembly so it could be shipped to the next exhibition in the States. Our challenge was to bring detailing from small-scale frames to this huge format while designing a system that would allow everything to go together with minimal tools. The structural framework had to become perfectly square so the plexi and cover panelling would come together with minimal tolerances, creating the final facing, allowing it to be viewed from upclose while protecting the work. A controllable lighting system was integrated into the frame all all edges to light could wash across the work, making it float within the frame.
